Frequent Questions

Will Atherton Lane Advisers, LLC® act as a broker?

No, we are neither a broker nor a custodian. We are purely an independent investment adviser and receive one hundred percent of our revenue from client investment management fees.

Does your firm have a minimum asset level that it requires for clients?

Atherton Lane believes that the long-term objectives of our clients are more important than their initial assets under management. While our firm manages in excess of $3 million for the typical client family, it is the individual and unique situation of each prospective client that determines whether we are a good fit for each other.

Will the assets in my account be in my name and where will they be held?

Yes, all client assets are managed in individual accounts which are in the client or client entities’ name. They may be held at various broker custodians, or with a bank custodian upon request.

If I have questions regarding my account, will there be a dedicated portfolio manager whom I may contact?

Yes, two portfolio managers are assigned to each client account so that you have ready access and may have your questions answered promptly.

How often will I receive reports from Atherton Lane?

Formal account reports are available quarterly either electronically or by mail. You may also review your portfolio at any time via a secure website connection.

Will Atherton Lane work with my existing team of professionals?

Yes, the firm typically works closely with your CPA, attorney, and other advisers.

Do you have full discretion in managing my investment accounts?

Yes, normally assets are managed on a discretionary basis. Our discretion is limited to investment activity. We are not able to withdraw funds from your account, with the exception of quarterly investment management fees.

How will I know if Atherton Lane Advisers would be the right investment adviser to work with me?

If you appreciate the benefit of delegating tasks to professionals, see the value of a comprehensive planned approach, have a long-term orientation, and wish to build a relationship with a trusted adviser, then Atherton Lane Advisers may be a very good fit for you.

Can you describe the process and steps involved to become a client?

First, you participate in meetings to learn about the firm’s services in detail, to facilitate the gathering of your financial data, and to thoroughly review and allow the firm to understand your investment objectives. Atherton Lane then prepares a detailed analysis of your circumstances including a proposal for managing your portfolio. These steps are completed at no cost or financial obligation to you. Once this process has been satisfactorily completed you may elect to execute an investment management agreement retaining Atherton Lane.

Are there services that Atherton Lane does not provide?

We do not prepare income tax or gift tax returns, draft legal documents, act as a broker, or serve as a custodian of assets.
